Kidoodle.TV, APMC’s safe-streaming AVOD service for kids, reaches its global audience through Amazon CloudFront: the edge plane accelerating and distributing the HLS/DASH video segments, manifests, and application surfaces, with AWS Elemental MediaTailor performing server-side ad insertion at the manifest layer — ads stitched into the stream itself, not patched in by the client. VeUP operates and continuously optimizes that delivery stack.

The challenge

An ad-supported kids’ streaming service carries two unforgiving constraints at the edge. First, the audience: children’s content demands a delivery chain where ads are controlled server-side — client-side ad tech is a compliance and safety liability in a kids’ product. Second, the economics: in AVOD, the delivery cost of every stream competes directly with the ad revenue it carries, so the CloudFront/MediaTailor stack is not just infrastructure — it is the margin. Operating that stack at global scale means holding playback quality, ad-stitching reliability, and per-stream cost in balance, continuously.

The solution

VeUP runs the delivery plane as a managed, measured system. Amazon CloudFront distributes the streaming video and application traffic worldwide, tuned for the segment-and-manifest traffic pattern of HLS/DASH OTT delivery; AWS Elemental MediaTailor sits at the manifest layer, assembling per-viewer streams with ads stitched server-side — the architecture that keeps the ad experience inside APMC’s control and the client app simple. Around the edge, VeUP ran a two-phase cost-optimization and operational-efficiency program over the CloudFront/MediaTailor stack — rightsizing first, then reserved-capacity and commitment analysis against the service’s traffic profile — plus a Backup-and-Restore disaster-recovery design on AWS Backup, AWS Config drift detection, and centralized security posture on AWS Security Hub, keeping the estate at Green account health while the FinOps program bends the delivery cost curve.

Production outcomes

KPIResult
Global delivery planeKidoodle.TV’s full streaming and application surface delivered through CloudFront worldwide, with MediaTailor server-side ad insertion keeping the ad chain inside the platform’s safety and compliance boundary.
Edge economics programTwo-phase FinOps engagement over the delivery stack — rightsizing plus reserved-capacity/commitment analysis — treating per-stream delivery cost as a managed KPI of the AVOD business.
Operational resilienceAWS Backup disaster-recovery design, Config drift detection, and Security Hub posture management wrapped around the OTT estate — the edge operated as a governed system, not a set-and-forget distribution.
Lessons & continuationIn AVOD, the CDN bill is a P&L line — treat edge cost with the same rigor as ad yield; and server-side ad insertion is the architecture that lets a kids’ service monetize while keeping every ad decision on infrastructure it controls.
